Research suggest that dieting to lose weight is extremely common, with nearly 50% of men and 75% of women going on a diet at some point in their lives, and 13-25% being on a diet at any point in time. Unfortunately, for many people diets are difficult and do not work, at best proving a hard fought but temporary solution.
Overeating is driven by lifestyle and psychological factors rather than a physical need and people may over-eat for a vast array of reasons. For some people, it is something they may have learnt as a child, perhaps they were told to always eat all the food on their plate, food has been used as a reward in the past or they simply learned the habit of eating fast and so over-eat before the brain registers a full stomach. For others, over-eating may be a compensatory strategy to help cope with emotional problems, perhaps boredom, unhappiness, stress or loneliness.
Whatever the reasons for over-eating, unless the underpinning psychological factors are addressed then any weight lost while on a diet will more than likely be put on again when the diet is finished and the earlier patterns of eating are resumed. Changing attitudes, beliefs and behaviour needs to be at the core of achieving a permanent weight loss and successful future weight management.
Weight loss and weight management issues are amongst the commonest problems brought to hypnotists and hypnotherapists. Why? Because many people have experienced either the problems and failure of attempts at dieting or else are attempting to escape the conveyor belt of on-off yoyo dieting.

Amongst many conditions, obesity is closely linked with type 2 diabetes, an increased risk increased risk of developing 10 of the most common cancers, and the risk of developing dementia in later life. Obesity can also have significant psychological and social implications. People perceiving themselves as overweight may suffer problems of self-concept and self-esteem, they may be stereotyped on the basis of their appearance, and may suffer consequentially in their social and personal relationships.
Programme 2: A personlised programme of cutting edge hypnotherapy protocols
This is a programme based on powerful, tried and tested approaches from clinical and conversational hypnotherapy (sometimes called direct and indirect hypnosis). It also incorprates advanced techniques from CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming). An initial consultation detrmines what isues need to be addressed and what methods would be used. With this programme I would generally recommend three sessions initially. This may be sufficient for many people though for others additional sessions may be added as needed. A CD is also available to support this programme.
Programme 3: Kick-Start and Booster Sessions
These sessions are for those people that wish to pursue their own weight loss programme, or possibly are seeking to supplement some other non-hypnotherapy approach to weight loss. The 'Kick-Start' session uses hypnotherapy to get you off to a good start by helping to motivate you and address some of the ways you think, feel and behave in relation to food, eating and weight loss. A 'booster session' can be used in the course of a weight loss programme to motivate and reinforce progress towards your desired weight loss; it is an ideal session for those that have been dieting for a while but then feel that their progress has slowed or stalled.

In the hands of an expert, professional hypnotherapist hypnosis can be a powerful tool for changing the maladaptive attitudes, beliefs and behaviour that underpin the eating habits that are the root causes of over-eating.
